Volunteer with Sustrans North East

Sustrans makes smarter travel choices possible, desirable and inevitable.

We’re a leading UK charity enabling people to travel by foot, bike or public transport for more of the journeys we make every day.

We work with families, communities, policy-makers and partner organisations so that people are able to choose healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys, with better places and spaces to move through and live in.

We are currently looking for volunteers to support us within the following roles:

The Bike Park Volunteers – South Shields/South Tyneside

This is an exciting opportunity to help support activities from our community active travel centre, The Bike Park, located at Temple Park, South Shields in South Tyneside.

The Bike Park is a community active travel centre set up with the aim of encouraging more people to get walking and cycling whilst also getting more involved in their local community.

We need volunteers to help support and grow our programme of activities. Current volunteer roles include:

(i) bike mechanic – assisting with our weekly community Dr Bike.

(ii) ride leader – assisting with our regular led bike rides and our bike rides with young people.

(iii) walk leader – we are aiming to start a regular walking group.

(iv) community events volunteer – promoting active travel at community events held at the Bike Park.

Volunteer BMX Club Assistant

This is an exciting opportunity to volunteer with Sustrans to run BMX sessions in South Tyneside, to pass on your skills and knowledge to children, and encourage more people to cycle and walk for local trips.
